Orchestra 

We are proud to present our orchestra which includes some of Greece's best musicians from the Radio National Symphony Orchestra. SCA orchestra is the recording and performance group for the summer program and regularly record music for film, TV and gaming. All present and past students of the SCA summer intensive program are eligible for a special discounted recording rate.

Miltos Logiadis

Miltos Logiadis was born in Athens. He studied music theory and piano at the Greek National Conservatoire, winning first prize and an outstanding performance award. On a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation, he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (University of Music and Performing Arts, Munich) under Fritz Schieri, Max Frey and Hermann Michael. He graduated with diplomas in choir and orchestra conducting and a Meisterklasse diploma. During his studies he was appointed to a teaching post at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, while he also took over as conductor of both the Madrigal Chorus and the Choir and Orchestra of the Catholic Community University (KHG).

 

He served as conductor with the Opera of Ulm for two years. In 1992, at the invitation of Manos Hadjidakis, he took over as conductor of the Orchestra of Colours, remaining in the post until 2011. He has conducted and recorded works by Astor Piazzolla, Jani Christou, Nikos Skalkottas, Petros Petridis, Yiannis Konstantinidis, George Kouroupos, etc. Many of his performances have been recorded in extensive discography (Naxos, Verve, EMI, Sony, Sirius, etc.). He has conducted, inter alia, the London-based Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), the Bavarian Radio orchestras, the Hamburg State Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, as well as all the Greek state orchestras: Athens State Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Orchestra, Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) National Symphony Orchestra, Camerata, Nikos Skalkotas Ensemble, etc.

 

He teaches orchestra conducting at the Department of Music of the Ionian University of Corfu, Greece. At the GNO he conducted such operas as George Kouroupos’ The escapees of the checkerboard, Die Zauberflöte, Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, Alcina, Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte and Il trovatore.

Stathis Laskaridis

Stathis Laskaridis was born in Athens in 1974. He started violin lessonsat the Athens Conservatory, with the distinguished violinist SophoclesPolitis, where he graduated with a degree in "Excellent" in 1998. Hecontinued his studies with the same professor at the "OrpheusConservatory ", where he obtained a diploma in violin with a grade of"Excellent "in 2001. He is also a graduate of the Department of BusinessAdministration and Management of the University of Piraeus.
 

He started his professional career in 1997, as a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens and then in the
Contemporary Music Orchestra of ERT. Since 1997 he is a permanent
member of OSM. and has been performing as a concertmaster since
2016. He was also a member of the Orchestra of the National Opera, the Symphony Orchestra "ENARMONIA" and the classical ensemble
"Mikis Theodorakis".

Michael Porfyris

Michael Porfyris was born in Athens-Greece. At the age of 9 he started studying cello at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens, from where he graduated earning Diploma with Honours plus a monetary award in memoriam of M.Varvoglis. He then continued his specialization in solo cello by taking master class courses in Germany with N.Tchaikofskaya and also in chamber music playing in Greece with Fr. Wibaut.

 

From 1996 he has played in the orchestra at the National Opera of Greece and from 2007 onwards he has been collaborating with Camerata – Chamber Orchestra of Athens. As a solo cellist and furthermore one of the founders of “ECHO” string quartet, an ensemble with a large number of live performances and classical concerts around the country, he participates in a variety of musical projects: concerts, discography, television, theatre and cinema soundtrack recordings. He has collaborated with a number of composers and well-known artists in Greece and abroad. He taught cello and chamber music at the Musical School of Athens [2002-2005] and is currently a professor at the Conservatory of Nea Makri in Athens, Greece.
